Priscilla Presley has left the building she called home for 45 years

Priscilla Presley has sold her palatial Beverley Hills mansion for $13 million - $3 million less than her original asking price but she does not show any signs of being all shook up.

Priscilla Presley – the actress and former wife of rock legend Elvis Presley – bought this Spanish-style compound so Elvis could live near their daughter, Lisa Marie, after their divorce in the 1970s.

The estate was listed for sale during the American Summer for the first time in over 45 years seeking $16 million, but an October price cut brought the tag down to $14.5 million.

Presley once described the estate as a “sanctuary” because it was secluded, hidden behind a gate and surrounded by lines of trees.

She told media that Elvis often stayed in the home to be with their daughter and said it was the ideal place for the King to enjoy privacy away from the cameras.

Gated and landscaped, the leafy retreat centres around a 1950s villa of nearly 9000 square feet. Surrounded by a series of gardens, lawns and terraces, it includes a swimming pool and tennis court.

The rustic Italian villa-style mansion sits behind gates on an acre of grounds. Brick walkways and patios, fountain features, gardens and creeping vines give the home a relaxed feel.

Built in 1951 and since updated, the house has vaulted ceilings, exposed beams and arched doorways.

Rich wood panels line the walls in the library/den. Velvety curtains and lacy wrought ironwork add a Parisian note to the dining room.

A whimsical gate accesses a courtyard at the front of the home, which draws the eye with a bright yellow façade lined with ivy and topped with clay tile.

The living spaces feature Spanish style, including exposed beams, arched doorways and ornate fireplaces across two storeys.

Rich wood panels wrap around the library and the formal dining room adds velvet drapes and a crystal chandelier. The home has seven bedrooms and 8.5 bathrooms, including an owner’s suite with a private terrace.

Jonah Wilson of Hilton & Hyland listed the home, while Peter Zimble and Dan Beder of Sotheby’s International Realty represented the buyer who couldn’t help falling in love with it.

In the listing, realtor Jonah Wilson wrote: “Available for the first time in over 45 years, this private enclave is nestled on over one acre of verdant grounds within the city limits of Beverly Hills. As the gate closes behind you, enter a secluded resort hideaway and leave the world behind”.

“A true sanctuary offering privacy and seclusion that is so rare today. The magnificent residence has been lovingly maintained by the current owner. Beamed vaulted ceilings and a flowing layout offer endless possibilities.

“Nearly every room opens out to lush gardens, terraces and rolling lawns. Multiple grand entertaining spaces including formal living room, dining room and library.

“Seven bedrooms total, including three bedrooms downstairs and maid’s room off the kitchen. A separate guest suite above the garage has its own entrance.

“Upstairs, the splendid master suite features his and her baths and a private terrace. Completing the spectacular grounds are a lovely pool and lighted N/S tennis court – all totally private and secure in a superb location.”

Presley, 75, was married to Elvis Presley for six years and served as the chairwoman of Elvis Presley Enterprises. As an actress, she is known for her roles in The Naked Gun films and on the prime-time television soap opera Dallas.

Records reveal she sold a Brentwood ranch for $3.8 million last year.
