LJ Hooker has been appointed the exclusive distributor of OHOME, a factory-built housing solution designed to add secondary dwellings to suitable residential properties, with the rollout beginning in Sydney before a staged national expansion.
For agents and property managers, the partnership opens up a new conversation with landlords and homeowners – not just about what a property is worth today, but whether underused land could support a secondary home that generates rental income or extra space for family.
OHOME builds factory-precision homes in a range of sizes and layouts, which the company says can be delivered faster than traditional construction. A two-bedroom, 60-square-metre home is expected to cost around $250,000, ready to live in including furniture and appliances, delivered and installed in less than 150 days from order to occupation, depending on planning approval, site conditions and delivery requirements.
An online platform at oho.me assesses a property’s zoning, lot size, planning requirements and site access, producing an indicative report for agents and owners to gauge whether a site might suit a secondary home.
The move comes as Australia faces a significant housing shortfall. Australian Bureau of Statistics figures show 173,367 homes were completed in the year to March 2026, against the 240,000 needed annually to meet the National Housing Accord’s target of 1.2 million homes over five years.
Christine Mikhael, LJ Hooker’s Chief Executive Officer, said the partnership reflected the network’s focus on the future of Australian property as it approaches its centenary in 2028.
“Australia’s housing supply challenge requires new thinking and practical solutions. Through our exclusive partnership with OHOME, our agents can help property owners understand whether underused land could support a second home, create rental income and contribute to much-needed supply in their community,” Christine said.
“For our 390 offices, this is the kind of advantage a network should deliver: exclusive opportunities, practical tools and strong support that help offices start new conversations, strengthen client relationships and grow their businesses.”
L. Janusz Hooker, Chair of LJ Hooker and OHOME, said the partnership brought together factory-built housing, technology and the local reach of the network’s agents.
“The next housing frontier is in the backyards of the homes Australia has already built. There is significant latent housing supply in our suburbs, but unlocking it requires a quality product, finance, planning intelligence and trusted access to property owners,” Janusz said.
Hunter Maxwell, Director at LJ Hooker Lifestyle Group, said the product had the potential to open up more strategic conversations with owners, particularly long-term landlords.
“When you show an owner that their backyard may be able to support another dwelling, the conversation changes. You are no longer talking only about the value of the existing home; you are helping them consider the wider potential of the property,” Hunter said.
“It’s a genuine point of difference for us, and just as importantly, it offers a practical way to add homes in the communities our offices serve.”
