Trade Me, New Zealand’s best-known e-commerce marketplace, has appointed Kul Singh as its next Chief Executive Officer, marking a major homecoming for the executive after 25 years abroad.

Kul steps into the role following the departure of Anders Skoe, who is stepping down at the end of September after leading Trade Me for seven years.

For Kul, taking the helm of Trade Me represents both a major career milestone and a deeply personal return to New Zealand.

“25 years ago, I left New Zealand and today, I’m incredibly excited to share that I’m coming home to join Trade Me as CEO,” he shared on LinkedIn.

“Trade Me is much more than a company. For generations of Kiwis, it has been part of everyday life. A place where we’ve bought, sold, searched, discovered and connected,” he wrote.

“Here’s to new beginnings, in familiar surroundings.”

Kul joins the company following a decade at Australia’s REA Group, where he most recently served as Chief Commercial & Marketing Officer.

During his time at REA, he led customer, product, technology, and marketing teams, and was described by the company as a strong advocate for customers.

He was also instrumental in driving social impact as the spearhead of the company’s “A Home For All” foundation, promoting better housing outcomes.

REA Group Chief Executive Officer Cameron McIntyre said Kul had been “an integral part of this business for over a decade” and had led significant customer and commercial growth.

“On behalf of REA, I want to thank him for his leadership, his commitment to our customers and his advocacy for better housing outcomes, and we wish him every success in his next role,” Cameron said.

With Kul’s departure, REA Group previously announced Katrina Konstas will step into the role of Chief Commercial & Marketing Officer starting 1 September.
