The Housing Industry Association has announced the appointment of a new National President and Vice President.

The Housing Industry Association (HIA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Alwyn Even from ABN Group as National President and Ms Debbie Johnson from Building Suncoast Green as National Vice President.
Alwyn and Debbie’s appointments were confirmed at the Association’s Annual General Meeting held in Canberra, following an election by the National Policy Congress earlier in the day.
Mr Even is a highly respected builder starting his career as teenager in 1975, and has a well honed expertise across all forms of home building.
Since 1995 Alywn has been actively involved in the Association in Western Australia, serving as a member of the Regional Executive Committee, Chair of the Regional Technical Committee, Vice President and President (2003 – 2005). Alwyn was also the Chair of the National Technical Committee for six years (2007-2013).
In May 2013 he was elected to HIA’s National Board of Directors and took up the position of Vice President in 2019.
Ms Johnson is a highly experienced designer and builder and brings a strong portfolio of skills to the role. She has run her business for 35 years and is involved in a diverse range of industry and government boards in addition to the time and energy she brings to her role with HIA.
Debbie was appointed as the Queensland Regional President in 2013 and appointed to the National Board in 2017. Her appointment as National Vice President is well deserved and she will be a great support to Alwyn and the National Board of Directors over the next two years.
The Congress expressed its great appreciation to Simon Norris, the outgoing National President. Simon will remain on the National Board for a further two years to continue sharing his experience and leadership.
During his term as National President Simon faced what can only be described as unprecedented challenges including natural disasters and the COVID-19 pandemic that have had a significant impact on the housing industry.
Simon’s leadership of the Board over the last two years, but in particular the last 12 months, has helped ensure the Association maintained the highest level of service and advocacy for our members.
The Board also welcomed David Morris from Simmons Wolfhagen in Tasmania who was also elected to fill the vacancy on the National Board created by the departure of Past National President, Pino Monaco.
