Fleetwood secures $32 million quarantine centre contract

The Australian Government has selected the primary developer for the new 1000-bed quarantine centre, which is set to be built in Melbourne. The first 500 rooms are expected to be built by the end of this year.

The announcement:

Fleetwood Limited has secured a major contract for the new 1000-bed Centre for National Resilience in Melbourne.

The Commonwealth Government established a panel of providers and the principal contractor, Multiplex, has selected Fleetwood as one of several suppliers of modular buildings that will make up the purpose-built quarantine facility.

Fleetwood is a proven leader in the modular construction industry in Australia, and a key supplier to the education, health, custodial, mining and affordable housing sectors.

Under the subcontract arrangement, Fleetwood will utilise its manufacturing facilities in Victoria and Queensland to build modular accommodation units as part of Multiplex’s plans to deliver the first 500 beds by the end of 2021.

The contract is expected to result in revenue of approximately $32 million for FY22.

The Centre for National Resilience at Mickleham, Victoria, will be built and owned by the Federal Government, and will be operated by the Victorian Government for the duration of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Commenting on the contract, Chief Executive Officer Bruce Nicholson said, Fleetwood is delighted to be playing a key role in the response to the COVID-19 pandemic and Australia’s road to recovery.

“Our staff and shareholders should also be very proud that their Company, in this partnership with the Commonwealth, is helping deliver the solution for Australians to return to a normal way-of-life.

“We are also confident that this contract will bode well for opportunities to take part in subsequent expansions and new facility builds that are being proposed.”
