First National Real Estate Leadership Awards recognise young change-makers

Some young up-and-comers have been recognised with First National Real Estate Leadership Awards.

Grant Milbourne, 28, of Lenah Valley was the winner at the 2018 Tasmanian Young Achiever Awards and was presented with his title by Ray Ellis, Chief Executive of First National.

Mr Milbourne founded ‘I’ME’ or Insight Mindfulness Education, a not-for-profit organisation that supports youth wellbeing and mental health.

It provides meditation retreats and professional development programs, as well as school-based programs that develop stress management skills and strategies for teachers and students.

Mr Milbourne has volunteered over 2,000 hours and organised a concert that raised $14,000 for I’ME. His website and Facebook pages provide resources, tips and strategies for meditation, managing stress and promoting psychological wellbeing.

At the 2018 NSW/ACT Young Achiever Awards, Emma Byrne took out the leadership award for her work campaigning for sober driving.

Ms Byrne, 27, of Canberra is a change-maker and regional youth ambassador. She worked closely with ACT Police coordinating the Champions ACT campaign, encouraging young people to look after each other when drinking alcohol.

Ms Byrne has encouraged government agencies to embrace online technology and her NSW National Youth Week work improved information provision and community engagement. Her online engagement strategy for the NSW Corrective Services, Sober Driver Program, represented a significant shift in police practice.

The duo rose to the top of an impressive batch of nominees, with hundreds of applicants for each award.
