Ex-state golfer turns successful agent in 30 days

Ex-state golfer and footballer Ryan Smith has made the leap into the world of real estate, joining the Realmark team.

From a strong sporting family consisting of professional golfer father Wayne Smith and sister Kristie Smith, Ryan played state-level golf and AFL from the age of 10.

Finding an early passion for real estate, Ryan completed his real estate course shortly after high school but struggled to juggle work experience and playing state-level AFL and golf. Putting the weekend life of an agent on the back burner, he turned to personal training, opening two Stadium Fitness 24-hour access gyms and a digital marketing agency that serves the hospitality industry, and became an investor in a Cambodian restaurant chain.

Now, at 27, he has hung up the football boots and golf clubs to dedicate his time to his early passion, real estate, and it has proved to be a great decision. He sold his first home after only a few weeks, along with team members of the Realmark Tonich team.

“Realmark appealed to me because of their strong branding and innovation, but what is great about them is the way they embrace you into the industry; you’re never on your own. The network has a resounding sense of cameraderie, which I found so empowering,” said Mr Smith.

With his first sale under his belt he had a sales coup, managing to put a home in Victoria Park under offer in just two days after it had previously been on the market for 130 days with another agent.

Mr Smith said the two-bedroom, two-bathroom townhouse near the Victoria Park shopping strip hadn’t sold through another agent, so a friend of his recommended him to the seller.

He quickly developed a good relationship with the property owner and shared the property with another client of his, who signed a contract within 30 hours of Mr Smith listing it.

“They gave me a shot and I sold it within 30 hours, for a 30-day cash offer,” Mr Smith said.

“I am finding with real estate that it’s best just to be yourself and focus on the client.”

Realmark Group Director John Percudani said, “Ryan has come on board with great energy, which is what our clients like to see. They want to know that our agents will do what it takes to get them the best offer and fight their corner to deliver the results. This is exactly what Ryan did. We have a great culture within the Realmark Group, embracing new talent into teams so they can get frontline experience.”

Mr Smith said his real estate focus is based more on coastal areas, particularly Wembley Downs. However, his four listings are currently spread through a variety of suburbs.
