London-based property developer Dar Global has announced plans for a new Trump Plaza in the Red Sea port city of Jeddah, marking its second collaboration with the Trump Organization, the group of companies controlled by former U.S. president Donald Trump’s children.
Dar Global announced the US$1 billion (about A$1.55 billion) project will follow last year’s launch of Trump Tower Jeddah in December.
The AP reported the new development will feature residences, serviced apartments, office space and townhouses.
Trump’s company pursued a series of real estate licensing agreements overseas before his first term in the White House, including deals for hotels and residential towers in Canada, Dubai, Mexico, India and Turkey.
The former president’s close relationship with Saudi Arabia’s crown prince and de facto ruler Mohammed bin Salman drew intense scrutiny after the 2018 killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, a Washington Post columnist who had been critical of the monarchy.
Trump made Saudi Arabia the first stop of his first foreign trip during his second term in office.
Dar Global is the international arm of Dar Al Arkan, one of Saudi Arabia’s largest developers.
The company says it currently has about US$7.5 billion (around A$11.6 billion) worth of projects under development across the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Qatar, the United Kingdom, Spain and Saudi Arabia.
