Take three: Baz Luhrmann lists renovated NYC townhouse again

Baz Luhrmannโ€™s New York City townhouse is back on the market with a new look and a reduced price tag.

The renowned filmmaker and his wife, costume designer Catherine Martin, have extensively renovated their Manhattan residence and are now listing it for just under $16 million.

Initially listed for $20 million in March 2022, the property returned to the market in September 2023 at $18 million, but failed to sell, according to the Robb Report.

The current price offers potential buyers a significant discount.

The Corcoran Group describes the property as a “rare and significant piece of New York City real estate,” ideal for both lavish entertaining and tranquil living.

Located at No. 243, the Stuyvesant Park brownstone spans about 790sq m and boasts six bedrooms, five full bathrooms, two powder rooms, and an elevator.

The couple purchased the historic Anglo-Italianate home in 2017 for US$13.5 million and undertook a comprehensive makeover, earning it a spot in Robb Reportโ€™s Best of the Best issue.

The five-storey residence, recently transformed by New York-based Interior Marketing Group, features 16-foot ceilings, arched doorways, original mouldings, and five fireplaces.

A grand floating staircase adds to the property’s opulence.

The main parlor level offers full-length windows and a cast-iron Juliet balcony with views over the park, while the rear primary suite includes an en suite bathroom, a large walk-in closet, and a private terrace.

The townhouse also has a Clive Christian-designed kitchen, equipped with top-of-the-line appliances from Viking and Sub-Zero, marble countertops, and painted pine cabinets.

The basement is configured as a media room, perfect for screening Luhrmannโ€™s films.

The uppermost floor, once home to jazz saxophonist Clifford Jordan and later Luhrmannโ€™s studio, is now a standalone suite with a living room, bar, and gym.

Broker Steve Gold, of the Corcoran Group, holds the listing, offering a unique opportunity to own a piece of New York City history with a touch of Hollywood flair.
