Take That singer Jason Orange’s former London penthouse hits the market

A London penthouse with connections to both the Titanic disaster and 1990s pop group Take That has been listed for ยฃ2.85 million (AUD$5.7 million).

The duplex apartment sits atop the historic Gatti House on the Strand in London’s Covent Garden neighbourhood and was previously owned by former Take That singer Jason Orange, who lived there for three years.

Built in 1886 as the Adelphi Theatre Restaurant by Italian-Swiss brothers Agostino and Stefano Gatti, the Grade II-listed building has a rich history of hosting high-profile patrons, including Oscar Wilde and Noรซl Coward, in its private dining rooms, according to Mansion Global.

The property also has a significant connection to maritime history.

J. Bruce Ismay, chairman of the White Star Line, was a regular visitor to the restaurant and in 1908 awarded the Gattis the contract to operate restaurants on his ocean liners, including the Titanic.

“Gatti House is a building that wears its history proudly,” Chris Sellwood, senior director at Sotheby’s International Realty U.K. said, who has the listing.

The Adelphi Theatre Restaurant became the blueprint for the Titanic’s first-class restaurant, with identical menus and table settings.

Tragically, Agostino’s cousin Gaspare “Luigi” Gatti and his staff were aboard the Titanic when it sank.

London developer Enstar Capital purchased the building in 2010 and by 2015 had converted it into four luxury residences named in honour of the Gatti family.

The 1,324-square-foot penthouse features two en-suite bedrooms on the lower level, with the primary suite offering access to a private balcony.

A curving wooden staircase leads to the upper floor, which houses an open-plan living space with vaulted ceilings, exposed wooden beams, and skylights.

The upper level also includes French doors leading to another balcony and a compact kitchen. Unlike many high-end UK properties, the entire apartment is air-conditioned.

“The conversion was carried out with extraordinary sensitivity, preserving character while creating homes that meet every modern expectation,” Sellwood said.
