Rosie O’Donnell sells NYC penthouse at significant loss after relocating to Ireland

Comedian Rosie O'Donnell has finally found a buyer for her New York City penthouse after nearly two years on the market, taking a substantial financial hit in the process.

The 3,381-square-foot luxury property, purchased by O’Donnell in 2017 for US$8 million, is now under contract for US$6.9 million, representing a loss of over US$1.1 million for the former talk show host according to Realtor.com.

The sale comes shortly after O’Donnell revealed she has relocated to Ireland following Donald Trump’s election victory, stating she would not return to the United States until it was “safe for all citizens.”

The four-bedroom, three-bathroom penthouse features numerous luxury amenities including a private rooftop terrace, glass-enclosed dining room, and sauna.

The spacious great room showcases a wood-burning fireplace made of honed black granite and imported wide-plank oak floors.

“I was never someone who thought I would move to another country, but that’s what I decided would be best for myself and my 12-year-old child. And here we are,” O’Donnell said.

The gourmet chef’s kitchen includes Corian countertops, an eat-in island, and high-end appliances, including a 70-bottle wine fridge.

Designed for entertaining, the space features two dishwashers, two ovens, and two integrated sinks, along with a pantry and bar area.

O’Donnell explained that she can apply for Irish citizenship because she has Irish grandparents, though she admitted to missing her four other adopted children who remain in the United States.

The Midtown Manhattan property offers 360-degree views of iconic New York landmarks including the Empire State Building and East River, and is conveniently located near Fifth Avenue shopping, the theater district, and Central Park.

This penthouse sale is part of a pattern for O’Donnell, who has sold several properties in recent years, including a mansion on Miami’s Star Island which she sold for US$16.5 million in 2003.

The comedian, who has been engaged in a public feud with Trump since 2006, indicated she might consider returning to the United States after Trump leaves office.
