The move comes after more than 16 months of dedicated training and preparation, with Nehme’s passion for auctioneering intensifying throughout 2024.
His commitment to the craft was demonstrated earlier this year when he represented NSW in the REINSW Novice Auctioneering competition state finals.
Prior to joining Cooley Auctions, Mr Nehme secured a position with Domain.com.au (Domain Group/CoStar Group), building his industry credentials while developing his auctioneering skills.
CEO of Cooley Auctions, Damien Cooley, said his decision to bring Nehme on board was influenced by more than just technical ability.
“When I first met Simon we spoke just about everything in our lives except for auctions and to frank it’s this conversation that drew me to understand more what Simon Nehme was all about. It’s the person I’m interested in rather than their skill, and don’t let that statement take anything away from his ability right now, particularly at Simon’s age,” Mr Cooley said.
Cooley, who brings 25 years of experience to his mentorship role, emphasised the importance of personal qualities in the auctioneering profession.
He said that Nehme’s temperament is particularly well-suited to the demands of the role.
“Simon has a very calming personality and is incredibly grateful to be a part of team Cooley. My goal now is to impart my 25 years of experience on Simon to help him be the best version of himself both in the auctioneering arena and in life,” he said.
Mr Cooley praised Mr Nehme’s professional attitude and understanding of what creates long-term success in the competitive auctioneering field.
“What I love about Simon’s attitude is he takes responsibility for himself. He realises that discipline, hard work, turning up every day and nurturing life-long relationships in this industry is what separates the successful career auctioneers from the Saturday auctioneers,” Mr Cooley said.
