REA Group has announced a minority investment in VALAI, an Adelaide-based AI-powered energy  intelligence platform.

The partnership will see VALAI’s flagship product, Home Efficiency Score, added  to property profiles on realestate.com.au, helping Australians understand how a home’s energy  performance compares to similar properties in the suburb.

The home energy efficiency score on realestate.com.au translates complex property energy data into a  simple score out of 10 and provides a comparison to the suburb benchmark. The score reflects a  property’s energy performance taking into consideration heating, cooling, hot water, appliances and  the thermal fabric of the building. A higher score means lower energy consumption and running costs.

The new feature also offers suggestions on how to improve the home’s energy efficiency, detailing  estimated savings and available rebates if energy upgrades were made. The practical steps a  homeowner can consider to improve a home’s energy efficiency include adding solar and home  batteries, a hot water heat pump and air conditioning.

The partnership brings together realestate.com.au’s comprehensive property data with VALAI’s energy  intelligence making energy performance more visible and actionable for the millions of Australians  who visit the platform every month.

REA Group Chief Product Officer, Jonathan Swift, said Australians recognise that energy efficiency can  reduce costs and environmental impact while increasing the value of their homes, but financial  constraints and knowledge gaps still exist, limiting widespread adoption.1

“realestate.com.au research shows us that two in five Australians are unsure about how to improve  efficiency in their homes, despite seven in 10 planning to invest in energy efficient features in the next  five years.1

“Adding this new home energy efficiency score feature to every property profile will help to bridge a  clear knowledge gap. It also offers homeowners a simple way to learn more about their property’s  energy efficiency, giving them specific information and practical steps to improve its energy  performance.”

VALAI Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Allys Todd, said: “We’re excited to partner with Australia’s  leading property portal to make the energy efficiency of homes in Australia more transparent and their potential comfort and running costs visible.

“Australians should know what their home is actually costing them and what they can do about it.  With home energy efficiency scores now on realestate.com.au, that intelligence is available to every  property owner in the country, not just those who know where to look. This is about giving people a  clear pathway to understanding how their home performs and what upgrades could reduce its running  costs and emissions.”

Home energy efficiency scores are now available on all realestate.com.au Property Profiles.  Homeowners can also connect with local installers to compare quotes and get started on upgrades by  submitting a simple form within the experience.
