REA Group backs stamp duty exemptions supporting City of Melbourne

REA Group has announced a new partnership with the City of Melbourne to help bring to life the council’s latest campaign, ‘This is Your Local’.

The campaign is designed to drive up demand for residential property in the city in a bid to entice buyers back into Melbourne’s CBD.

REA Group will build and host a bespoke campaign hub on realestate.com.au to showcase all that Melbourne has to offer, including the lifestyle and financial benefits of city living.

The hub will exclusively feature property listings eligible for stamp duty concessions, acting as a one-stop-shop for buyers looking to make informed property market decisions and take advantage of new stamp duty discounts.

REA Group Chief Executive Officer Owen Wilson said the group was proud to partner with the City of Melbourne to breathe life back into the city and reclaim the title as the world’s most liveable city.

“Inner-city markets have largely avoided the recent explosion in property prices, but as we head into 2022 and international students and migration returns, we expect to see increased demand for inner-city properties,” he said.

“Stamp duty exemptions and discounts for properties across the City of Melbourne should encourage Victorians to once again consider making the world’s most liveable city home, and importantly, contribute to the social and economic recovery in Victoria.”

The realestate.com.au ‘This is Your Local’ hub will house tailored investing and buying guides, information on how to unlock financial incentives, property market updates from PropTrack economists using proprietary data and insights, in addition to all eligible property listings.

Lord Mayor Sally Capp encouraged prospective buyers to make the most of the new stamp duty discount, which could amount to tens-of-thousands of dollars in savings.

“Right now, you could buy a home in the city without having to pay a cent of stamp duty,” Ms Capp said.

“Melbourne has a cultural heart like no other. It’s a wonderful place to live with everything you need within a 20-minute stroll from your home.

“When you live in the city, everything is at your doorstop. Your local shops are the Queen Victoria Market, your local park is the Royal Botanic Gardens, and the MCG is your local footy ground.”
