Laing+Simmons Kingsford marks 35 years

Laing+Simmons Kingsford has celebrated 35 years as part of the network.

The announcement:

Laing+Simmons Kingsford has celebrated an anniversary very few real estate businesses ever reach. The award-winning Anzac Parade office celebrates 35 years as part of the Laing+Simmons network.

Always a family business, Laing+Simmons Kingsford today is headed by father and son co-principals Nicholas and Dean Efrossynis. Nicholas first opened the office under the Laing+Simmons brand in 1986 after several years operating an independent agency.

“I started in real estate as an 18-year old in 1974 with an independent agency at Bondi Junction before going into business myself as an independent agency in 1981 in Potts Point. At that time, it was just me and a 2-day a week receptionist, which is all I could afford,” Nicholas explains.

“But we survived, and after a few years I began investigating franchise opportunities. I was attracted to Laing+Simmons because it was never about being the biggest in terms of numbers, but the best in terms of quality.

“Since then, and despite approaches over the past 35 years from almost every franchise group, I have never considered changing. I’m proud of the business and the team for reaching this milestone.”

Nicholas is now the longest standing principal in the Laing+Simmons network and was also recently honoured with the Doug Laing Memorial Award at the company’s annual awards. He is also one of the new owners of Laing+Simmons Corporation in the takeover finalised earlier this year. His son Dean is too.

Dean Efrossynis joined Laing+Simmons Kingsford in 2006 as a property manager and in 2016 became a co-principal of the business.

He’s a key reason Laing+Simmons Kingsford has been able to adapt to changes in the operating environment, especially recent technological advances, the demise of print in marketing, legislative and licensing changes, and the personal, professional and financial challenges of economic shocks such as the GFC and COVID-19.

“I’ve been fortunate to be immersed not just in real estate, but the local market specifically, from a young age. While the forums and mechanisms for service delivery have evolved over time, the principles remain constant,” Dean says.

“Only by putting the customer’s needs first, recognising that everyone’s needs and motivations differ, can an agency stand the test of time. You need a loyal clientele to be around for as long as we have.

“It’s a source of pride for the whole team to be thriving 35 years after the doors first opened,” says Dean.

Laing+Simmons CEO Leanne Pilkington congratulated Nick, Dean and the team on the major milestone.

“Our Kingsford office is a rarity in the context of the real estate industry. Many businesses come and go, many change banners and brands, so for Laing+Simmons Kingsford to be able to achieve the longevity and consistency it has is a testament to the way they do business and serve their customers,” Ms Pilkington says.

“The Kingsford team exemplifies the Laing+Simmons point of difference. We congratulate the team on this impressive achievement.”
