Frank Lloyd Wright’s ‘Westhope’ listed for US$8 million after restoration

The famous ‘Westhope’ home designed by legendary architect Frank Lloyd Wright has returned to the market with an asking price of nearly US$8 million.

The house, also known as ‘The Big House’, was originally commissioned by Tulsa Tribune publisher Richard Lloyd Jones in the late 1920s and is one of only three Wright-designed structures in Oklahoma.

The property was sold to Tulsa developer Stuart Price of Price Family Properties for $2.5 million in October 2021, and since then has undergone extensive restoration and modernisation, according to Dirt.com.

The exterior, glasswork, and landscaping have all been updated to bring the house into the 21st century.

The 966sq m, two-level home features five bedrooms and five bathrooms. It has original stained concrete floors, casement windows, built-ins, and vast expanses of glass throughout.

The spacious formal living room is one of five wood-burning fireplaces found in the house, and there’s also a wet bar-equipped dining room and an updated kitchen with dual islands and stainless appliances.

The house is situated on nearly two acres of land in Tulsa’s affluent Midtown neighborhood, near the area’s bustling retail and commercial districts.

The striking cement block and glass-columned dwelling is highlighted by a grassy backyard hosting a pool, koi pond, and several spots well-suited to al fresco lounging and entertaining.

There’s also an 74sq m guest apartment and an attached five-car garage.

โ€œThis home is truly a piece of art,โ€ listing agent Rob Allen of Sage Sothebyโ€™s International Realty told Dirt.com.

โ€œIn addition to being one of Frank Lloyd Wrightโ€™s largest works, it is his only textile block home outside of California โ€” where they have garnered some of his highest prices.โ€

Completed in 1929 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975, Westhope is a unique property that combines history, luxury, and art.

Its distinctive design and features make it a one-of-a-kind property that is sure to attract the attention of discerning buyers looking for a truly exceptional home.
