The property industry led A Home for All Foundation launched earlier this month to help bolster the industry’s support of those impacted by homelessness and housing insecurity.
Guided by an Advisory Committee of housing, homelessness and property sector leaders, the Foundation aims to drive deeper awareness, raise impactful funds and build long-term change.
Advisory Committee Chair and CEO of LJ Hooker Group, Christine Mikhael, said domestic and family violence is an increasingly significant contributor to the homelessness issue facing many Australians.
“The number of people experiencing homelessness due to domestic violence more than doubled between 2021 and 2024,” Christine said.
“There are some exceptional organisations working incredibly hard to combat this issue, and we’re hopeful the funds we provide can make a genuine impact.
“122,000 Australians experience homelessness every night, yet only 6% of those are sleeping rough in plain sight.
“Homelessness isn’t always visible and the Foundation’s A Night Without Home campaign this October is designed to highlight the number of people who go without housing security night to night.
“Our aim is to raise $1 million by November, in support of organisations focused on those experiencing homelessness due to domestic and family violence.”
A Night Without Home asks individuals or teams to spend time in the shoes of someone facing homelessness, with a range of challenges to choose from.
Participation could be a single donation, spending a night without the comforts of home and fundraising for the cause, or committing to supporting the Foundation year-round.
