Besser + Co secures six REIV award nominations

Melbourne-based real estate agency Besser + Co has been recognised with six finalist nominations in this year's Real Estate Institute of Victoria (REIV) Awards for Excellence.

The agency has been nominated for Medium Residential Agency of the Year, Residential Property Management Department of the Year, and a Community Service Award for its fundraising efforts for motor neurone disease.

Individual nominations include Miranda Faragรณ for Business Development Manager of the Year, Maxine Piekarski for the Operational Support Award, and director Dion Besser for Salesperson of the Year.

Dion Besser puts the agency’s success down to a deliberate focus on strategy and teamwork.

โ€œThese nominations are the result of a talented team that collaborates, has each otherโ€™s backs, and works hard together every single day,” Mr Besser said.

โ€œI couldnโ€™t be prouder of what weโ€™ve built.โ€

For Mr Besser, the Salesperson of the Year nomination represents a career milestone and places him alongside other industry leaders.

“To be up against some of those other nominated agents, I mean, these are behemoths of agents that I’m up against. And to even be in a list with them is an absolute honour,” Mr Besser said.

He said that achieving such performance levels requires more than individual talent.

“A lot of strategy, a lot of thought’s gone into how do I free up my time to be able to perform at that level as a salesperson.

Quite a bit of strategy went into that, through recruitment, through systems and procedures and teamwork,” he said.

This marks the second time Besser + Co has been nominated for Residential Property Management Department of the Year.

“We didn’t win three years ago,” Mr Besser said.

“It was probably… we were a little bit more immature at that time. Far more mature now, with some absolute rock stars in our property management department.”

The company’s community service nomination originated from an initiative led by Paige de Gruchy.

“She’s not a culture person. She’s our leasing person, but had a desire and a passion to raise money for motor neurone disease,” Mr Besser said.

And she helped us put together this incredible event that we ran behind our office… which was great. A lot of fun.โ€

The property management department benefits from expert leadership.

“Sam Hatzistamatis, who is the president of the REIV, actually runs our department,โ€ he said.

โ€œSo to have somebody who not only is good with strategy, but somebody who can actually roll out the strategies is great.

โ€œIt’s one thing to have an idea, it’s another to be actually able to do it.โ€
