REIQ supports next wave of PNG property professionals

Queenslandโ€™s peak real estate body helps PNG agents boost skills, structure, and service delivery

The Real Estate Institute of Queensland (REIQ) has continued its long-standing commitment to professional development in the Pacific, delivering its signature property management training to real estate professionals in Papua New Guinea (PNG).

The 2025 training, held in Port Moresby, included two intensive two-day courses in property management, along with a one-day session tailored for business owners and managers.

The initiative further strengthens the REIQโ€™s partnership with the Real Estate Industry Association of Papua New Guinea (REIA-PNG), a relationship built on shared goals of lifting professional standards and promoting best practice across the region.

REIQ CEO Antonia Mercorella described the program as an important step forward.

“The REIQ has a proud history of supporting the Real Estate Industry Association of PNG in its ambition to raise the bar of the local real estate sector,” Ms Mercorella said.

“While PNG currently operates without formal sales or property management legislation, the appetite for best practice is clearly growing. We’re pleased to share our expertise in areas like tenant selection, routine maintenance, and trust accounting, to help establish more consistent and standardised service delivery.”

Leading the training was REIQ Fellow and Bundaberg-based agent Le-Anne Allan, who has played a key role in delivering real estate education in PNG.

“From Bundy to PNG, it’s been such an honour to support real estate excellence beyond our borders,” Ms Allan said.

“We’ve taken Queensland’s approach and tailored it to PNG’s unique market to equip professionals with the skills and systems to deliver reliable, professional services.

“The participants were incredibly engaged and motivated – from property managers and valuers to maintenance contractors, facilities managers, and business owners – all looking to improve service delivery and operate with more structure and accountability.”

Ms Allan said the feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with participants rating the course five stars and describing the content as โ€œeye-opening.โ€

“One participant told me they now feel confident to be a ‘point of Best Practice difference’ in their workplace, which speaks volumes about the impact of this kind of training.”

As the REIQ and REIA-PNG look ahead, planning is already underway for another round of training in 2026.

The collaboration was further celebrated during a recent visit to Brisbane by REIA-PNG President Mike Quinn, who presented the REIQ with a gift, an artwork showcasing Papua New Guineaโ€™s native birds, as a token of appreciation.

“The REIQ is providing us with an invaluable training opportunity and a unique ability for people in the real estate industry in PNG to engage in personal professional development,” Mr Quinn said.

“We’re pleased to have been able to work together towards building a stronger, more professional real estate sector through this partnership.”
