NFL linebacker Shaq Thompson lists custom Charlotte home for $10.7 million

Former Carolina Panthers linebacker Shaq Thompson has put his custom-built Charlotte home on the market for US$10.7 million ($AUD 16 million) as he relocates to Buffalo following a team change.

Thompson, who spent 10 seasons with the Panthers before signing with the Buffalo Bills, had the nearly 11,000-square-foot residence built in 2020 for his family of five.

The property sits on 1.6 acres in a desirable Charlotte neighborhood near the upscale SouthPark area according to Mansion Global.

The linebacker and his wife Gabby purchased the land for US$1.25 million in 2019, before embarking on their custom build project.

“We love that it feels tucked away and peaceful but still close to everything,” Thompson said.

“The sense of community here is strong, and the schools, trees and walkability all sealed the deal. It was important for us to find a place that felt safe and inviting for our family and where we could truly plant roots.”

Named “Three Little Birds” in honour of the Thompson children, the two-story residence features a white stucco exterior and gated entrance.

According to the listing, the home combines traditional and modern design elements throughout its spacious interior.

The property’s centerpiece is a double-height great room with dual chandeliers and a dark marble fireplace mantel.

This open-concept space flows into a kitchen featuring a large white marble island with seating for five.

The residence includes six bedrooms, six full bathrooms, and two partial bathrooms.

The primary suite is located on the main level, which Thompson described as being designed to feel “like a retreat.”

Entertainment features abound in the home, with a dedicated theatre and a lower level designed specifically for hosting guests.

This entertainment zone includes a large TV area, wet bar, and billiards table.

The property extends beyond the main house to include a separate wellness building equipped with a full gym, sauna, and steam shower.

Outdoor amenities feature a pool with hot tub, cabana, covered sitting and dining area with TV, and a sports court.

The 31-year-old linebacker was drafted by the Panthers in 2015 but was released at the end of the 2024 season after being sidelined for most of it due to an Achilles injury.

He subsequently signed a one-year contract with the Bills, prompting the family’s move and the listing of their Charlotte property.

The home is being marketed by Ben Bowen of Premier Sotheby’s International Realty.
