Local family business joins Ray White after 20 years

After two decades of independent operation in Barham, New South Wales real estate gun Lauren Polkinghorne has joined the Ray White network.

The Ray White Barham principal is eager to bring together local expertise with national backing in a move that promises exciting opportunities for the Murray River community.

Lauren, who established the independent agency 20 years ago after working with another local agent, said the decision to align with Ray White was driven by shared family values and a commitment to community service.

“What drew us to Ray White was the real family connection,” said Lauren, a mother-of-two.

“We’ve been a family-run business, which is very important to us, and Ray White felt comfortable – it just felt right.”

Lauren said her office was currently undergoing a complete renovation, operating with a dedicated local team of six staff members, including three sales people and combined sales and property management specialists.

The agency services both residential and commercial markets, with a property management portfolio of approximately 300 properties across the New South Wales-Victoria border.

Laurenโ€™s husband Lloyd, who owns The Koondrook Barham Bridge Newspaper, a local independent newspaper, is also involved in the business, assisting with photography, advertising and operational support.

“When we join Ray White, we just want to continue providing the service we always have, but now with the backing of a national network,” Lauren said.

“We’re a small rural area with a good name, and as a business it’s time to move forward.”

She emphasised that core values of transparency, honesty and their established client approach will remain unchanged, with the same staff initially continuing to serve the community.

Recruitment opportunities are planned for the coming six months as the business expands, Lauren said.

She said the Golden Rivers area, predominantly a retirement destination with a growing number of young families returning to the region, benefits from low crime rates and strong tourist appeal due to its Murray River location.

“We are so excited to be part of the Ray White team,” Lauren said.

“The whole team is excited about this fresh approach for us and the community. We’ll be growing the commercial side of our business while continuing to provide the residential and property management services our clients rely on.”

The transition marks a significant milestone for both the local agency and the community it serves, combining trusted local knowledge with enhanced resources and national market reach.

Ray White NSW & ACT CEO Tim Snell said: โ€œWe’re absolutely delighted to welcome Lauren and her team to the Ray White familyโ€.

โ€œThis partnership represents exactly the kind of alignment we value most – a well-established, community-focused business with deep local roots and an outstanding reputation,โ€ he said.

โ€œLauren has built something truly special over the past two decades in Barham. Her commitment to transparency, honesty, and exceptional client service mirrors the values that Ray White was founded on more than 120 years ago.

โ€œWhen you combine that strong local expertise with our national network, technology platforms, and marketing resources, it creates tremendous opportunities for both the team and the community they serve.โ€
