Jamie Durie offered $30 million for family home

Celebrity gardener Jamie Durie is considering selling his newly completed Avalon mansion after receiving an unexpected offer of more than $30 million for the property.

Durie and his fiancรฉe Ameka Jane spent 10 years planning and building their luxury waterside family home, which they only moved into last November with their two young children.

The landscaping guru purchased the property in 2015 for $2.275 million according to Daily Mail Australia.

“We’ve spent 10 years planning and building our family home and we love it,” Durie told the publication.ย

“We received an unexpected offer in the mid $30 million and are now warming to the idea of spending some time on our hobby farm with the kids while they are young.”

The six-bedroom mansion replaced an original 1960s four-bedroom cottage and features a pool, gym and media room.

The couple invested approximately $3 million into creating what Durie described as an “innovative, sympathetic and responsive” home designed with sustainability as its foundation.

Despite not officially listing the property for sale, Durie has engaged McGrath real estate to manage any future off-market offers.

The potential sale would represent a profit of at least $24.775 million on his initial investment.

The construction process was documented in Durie’s show “Growing Home,” which showcased the sustainable building practices implemented throughout the project.

The home was designed to “maximise everything we wanted out of a house without compromise” while minimising environmental impact.

“I’ve always wanted to make a show that focuses on sustainable building, not just in the home but in gardens,” Durie said.

“For me, if we were going to make a show about sustainable building, then we should practise what we preach and show our house first.

โ€œSo that’s what we did.”

The development faced significant challenges along the way, including opposition from local residents.

The Northern Beaches Council eventually approved Durie’s development application in April 2022 despite receiving more than 50 objections from neighbours concerned about the removal of native trees and potential impacts on local wildlife.

If the sale proceeds, Durie and his family may relocate to their Byron Bay hinterland property, which he purchased in 2023 for $3.625 million.
