Inaugural Ray White business welcomes exciting next chapter

When Ray White launched in 1994, Ray White Cannington was one of the key businesses that started what is today the stateโ€™s number one business.

Embracing auctions, technology and innovation (all new to WA at the time) Ray White Cannington has been a mainstay of the growth Ray White has experienced in Western Australia.

Led by business owners Karen and Michael Smart, the business established themselves as market leaders locally, however it has been their influence on the broader group that has earned them significant recognition.

The test of good leadership is developing the next generation and this has been evident with new business owner Cameron Smart taking over the reins of the business.

With 32 years of success behind them the business will undergo a name change to Ray White Canning River under the proud 36-year-oldโ€™s leadership.

Mr Smart said he was looking forward to bringing โ€œmodern energyโ€ to the business with the help of his wife and business partner Aimee.

โ€œWe are keen to grow right across the business and we have a strong drive to grow our rental division,” he said.

โ€œProperty management will be a big side of our business and we are focused on having a growth mindset.โ€

Mr Smart said his parents, Karen and Michael Smart, were recently recognised with a Life Membership at the annual Ray White awards, and are well known within the community.

Mr Smart started working at his parentโ€™s Ray White office when he was just 15 years old, and last year was recognised for 20 yearsโ€™ of service with the business.

The next 12 months will be significant for Mr Smart, who has his sights set on becoming a Ray White Premier Performer.

A Premier Performer is an individual agent within the Ray White real estate network who has achieved a high level of success and is recognised for their performance, placing them in the top tier of the companyโ€™s performers.

โ€œWe are not all about being number one, for us it is continuing to be loyal to our community and within the marketplace delivering a great service for our customers,โ€ Mr Smart said.

โ€œItโ€™s a family business and we know the market well. Thereโ€™s trust that comes with that and brand recognition.

โ€œWe are excited to take the reins and make it our own. We have the same team with a fresh approach and some new ideas.โ€

He said plenty of first home buyers and investors were keen to purchase in the area, making it a real estate โ€œmelting potโ€.

โ€œHaving the intricate knowledge around zoning and development capabilities in this area means we can guide people to make the best decisions about their properties, or what they are looking at purchasing.โ€

Ray White WA CEO Mark Whiteman said: โ€œWe are very grateful to Karen and Michael for all they have given to Ray White and we’re thrilled to support Cameron and Aimee in taking on the leadership of a much-loved and established businessโ€.

โ€œThis transition represents everything we value at Ray White – family, community, leadership and the drive for continued excellence,โ€ Mr Whiteman said.

โ€œRay White Canning River is in great hands.โ€
