The approximately 5,600-acre Rancho Temescal, located in the Topatopa foothills near Lake Piru about 45 minutes from downtown Los Angeles, falls within the coveted Thirty Mile Zone (TMZ) that makes it a prime location for film and television productions.
According to Mansion Global, the property was purchased by financier and racehorse breeder Jed Cohen and his son Tim Cohen in 2000 for $3.9 million (AUD $5.9 million) from oil giant Texaco.
Following Jed Cohen’s death in 2022, Tim has decided to sell the ranch.
The ranch includes eight separate residences ranging from 900 to 2,000 square feet, with most accommodations used for staff.
Bill McDavid of Hall and Hall holds the listing and said the zoning would permit construction of an additional home of up to 20,000 square feet.
Beyond its residential features, Rancho Temescal functions as a working farm with multiple commercial operations.
The property boasts approximately 600 acres of irrigated agricultural land with lemon and avocado orchards, extensive equestrian facilities including an 18-stall main barn, and an events venue used for weddings and charity functions.
The ranch also maintains an active oil drilling operation that generates royalties for the owners.
Its Hollywood connections have brought numerous stars to the property over the years.
Tim Cohen has encountered celebrities like Tom Cruise and Margot Robbie during filming.
Even the ranch’s creek has played a role in entertainment, serving as the discovery site for fictional corpses in shows like “NCIS.”
The Cohen family has invested over $30 million (AUD $45 million) into the property during their ownership.
