Facebook co-founder lists historic Hudson Valley estate for nearly $10 million

Facebook co-founder Chris Hughes has placed their historic Hudson Valley estate on the market

Hughes purchased the property for approximately US$6 million in 2011 and has since invested millions in upgrades according to the WSJ.

The 80-acre property features three structures with a total of 12 bedrooms, including a main house that is over 200 years old.

The estate boasts impressive amenities, including a 48-foot pool, hot tub, tennis court that can be used for pickleball, and 3.5 miles of hiking trails.

The grounds also feature two ponds and an apple orchard, providing ample outdoor activities for the family.

The property has historical significance, having once been owned by Aileen Osborn Webb, a prominent supporter of the American Craft movement during the Great Depression.

Webb was married to Vanderbilt Webb, a descendant of railroad magnate Cornelius Vanderbilt.

Hughes undertook extensive renovations to the property, redesigning the interiors and modernising the kitchens in both the main house and guesthouse.

He also replaced the nearly century-old pool and revamped all the landscaping.

Despite the property’s secluded feel, it remains just minutes from the restaurants and boutiques of neighbouring Cold Spring.

Hughes described the appeal as feeling like “you’re in the middle of nowhere” while still having amenities nearby.

Hughes left Facebook in 2007 and made headlines in 2019 when he publicly called for the breakup of the company, now known as Meta.
