Victoria’s best auctioneers battle it out

Some of the best auctioneers from around Victoria will battle it today for their chance to compete in the Australasian Auctioneering Championships in October.

The Senior Auctioneer of the Year Competition, organised by the Real Estate Institute of Victoria (REIV), is a two-day event, testing auctioneers on their knowledge of best practice and legislation.

It also tests their performance in a simulated auction situation.

REIV President Robyn Waters said the competition had been a popular event for many years. She also revealed a new component would be introduced in 2019.

“For the first time, we will live-stream the competition via our Auction Partner GAVL, with links for each competitor updated on the REIV’s Facebook page throughout the competition,” Ms Waters said.

“The REIV is delighted to again have the Herald Sun and Leader as our Auction Partners.”

REIV Vice President, Auction Chapter Chair and Chief Judge Adam Docking said the event offered a great opportunity to see best auctioneers in Victoria in action.

Nine entrants participated in yesterday’s preliminary final including 2018 winner Luke Banitsiotis.

“The winner and runner-up will go on to contest the Australasian Auctioneering Championships in October, which we are very excited to be hosting in Melbourne in association with the Real Estate Institute of Tasmania,” Mr Docking said.

The event will also feature three-time Australasian Auction Champion, Mark Sumich who will share tips and strategies with members during an interactive training session.
