The Barry Plant Think Tank Property Management Conference, held at Moonee Valley Racecourse recently, brought property managers from across the Barry Plant Group together to continue their professional development which has been a vital part of making Barry Plant the largest property management company in Victoria.. Think Tank is one of many development opportunities available to group members and supplements over 30 individual training sessions offered exclusively to Barry Plant property managers throughout the year. The event was well attended, with around 200 delegates representing Barry Plant’s 80 offices.

Yvonne Martin, Property Management Consultant at Barry Plant, said the objective of the event was to bring the property managers together as a group, to review the year, plan for the next one and to learn from the industry’s best resources.

‘We now manage over 28,500 properties, ’ Yvonne said. ‘Property management is a vital aspect of the Barry Plant business.’

Partner and Training Manager at Barry Plant, Tony Larkin, spoke to the delegation on the importance of each and every member of the Barry Plant team in contributing the growth and ongoing success of the business. His key message, ‘proud, committed and motivated’ spoke about the unique offerings of the Barry Plant Group that provided the tools for all its members to build highly successful careers..

With over 21 years’ experience in the property industry across Australia, New Zealand, the UK and US, Fiona Blayney spoke on the landlord-agent relationships. In this session, property managers viewed owning an investment property from their clients’ viewpoint – an exercise that attendees agreed, gave them a clearer understanding and showed them how to better assist their clients.

Andrew Cox from Property Safe guided the group through the risk mitigation process for a typical rental property and how to identify areas of concern in this litigious field.

During breaks in the conference, attendees were able to spend time with valued suppliers who had set up a trade show to showcase their latest product offerings. At the end of the day a cocktail party gave property managers and directors the chance to network and review the day in a relaxed environment.

‘It’s a great day for networking,’ said one delegate, ‘and always a really good day for property management-focussed information. It provides the motivation to go back to your office and provide an even better service.’
