“There is no question that real estate is a numbers game and working harder helps, but I always want to know how do you work harder on the smarter things? In other words, how can you find faster ways to differentiate yourself in the marketplace. And I think it’s more than just working hard.”
That’s AREC 2018 speaker Peter Sheahan on our podcast this week talking about some of the things that are going to Matter in the future (pun intended), and was one of our most trending items this week. More below.

Social Media Workshop for agents Tuesday we kicked off with a feature by Sabri Suby about the need for agents to stop talking about themselves on social media and Iolanthe Gabrie agrees, you need to stop making noise and start adding value. DEPT OF AUCTIONS It’s going to be a
subdued weekend for auctions according to CoreLogic figures, with only 814 homes scheduled to go under the hammer leading into the Queen’s Birthday holiday on Monday. This is down significantly on last week (not surprisingly), with Melbourne especially seeing a massive 77.5 per cent drop on the final figures last week. 243 homes are scheduled to go under the hammer, down from 1079 last week. Sydney is scheduled to see the most action - 377 properties are up for auction, down from 837 last week.
Neither Brisbane or Perth will be getting the public holiday, but numbers are also down in the Sunshine State, with 91 scheduled auctions. Perth is the only state seeing a rise at
31. After four consecutive weeks of declining clearance rates, it will be interesting to see if the lower numbers this weekend have any effect on these figures.

WHAT TO SAY TO THE CUSTOMER ASKS YOU TO FIND THEM A CHEAP RENTAL, EVEN THOUGH YOU’RE IN SALES Alrighty then. That’s what Josh Altman said as he reluctantly found himself helping a woman looking to lease a property rather than buy one. Over a month later, she finds her home, but Josh loses more than he earns. That is, until he receives a call that evening which unexpectedly turns the tide. Watch Now.

BIG BROTHER IS ALWAYS WATCHING On this day in 1949 George Orwell’s dystopian novel 1984 was published. The novel, set in the year 1984, tells the story of a sci-fi future where Great Britain has become a province of a super state and is stuck in a permanent war with ever-present government surveillance.
Not only has the novel gone on to become thought of as one of the best pieces of literature ever written, it’s also regularly referred to as an eerie prediction of modern society. Some of the ideas dreamed up by Orwell don’t seem out of place in 2018, especially in light of recent data-monitoring drama from a certain social networking platform…
