RE/MAX New Zealand’s Queenstown rally sets high benchmark

After a period of COVID-related uncertainty, RE/MAX New Zealand held its second rally for the year, bringing more than 100 members, business partners and invited guests together in Queenstown on 3 September.

RE/MAX New Zealand CEO Don Ha said it was only in the week prior to the event that the network could announce it would go ahead.

“This is the first time the RE/MAX six-monthly awards have been held outside of Auckland. We decided on Queenstown to support the local economy as it has been hit the hardest by COVID-19,” Mr Ha said.

“The real estate industry has gone through many changes over the past six months and, through this, RE/MAX has continued to evolve to support our network of brokers and agents, arming them with new tools and products to continue to perform well.

“Furthermore, since the acquisition of New Zealand in April this year, we have brought on four new franchises, with further announcements coming soon.

“We won’t let this crisis steal our entrepreneurial dreams,” Mr Ha said. “We’re always moving forward and through the challenges, and there have been some amazing achievements throughout our network.”

The rally program, in the hands of MC Milan Maharaj, featured great speakers from within the RE/MAX ranks and beyond.

Mr Ha opened the day, introducing the rally theme of Reset, Reimagine, Renew and special ‘virtual’ guests from global headquarters in Denver, Colorado: Shawna Gilbert, ‎Vice President-Global Development, RE/MAX LLC and Cheryl Luster, Director-Global Development, RE/MAX LLC.

On screen was guest speaker Ken Eddy, a realtor and author who has been with RE/MAX since 1988 and heads RE/MAX Real Estate Central in Calgary, Canada which has been the highest producing office for transactions worldwide for 21 years.

Joseph Parker

Heavyweight champion title holder, Joseph Parker, weighed in on the event in person to ‘Punch out your doubt’, while Warren White, introduced by Mr Ha as ‘a legendary name in real estate’ discussed ‘Resetting in the current climate’.

Keynote speaker Temuera Morrison was a highlight on the day’s programme.

The internationally acclaimed New Zealand actor, who was first seen on screen at age 11, won Kiwi TV immortality as Dr Ropata in Shortland Street two decades later. He received rave global reviews as abusive husband Jake Heke in Once Were Warriors.

Since reprising his Warriors role in a well-regarded sequel, Morrison has starred in Crooked Earth, Tracker and Mahana, hosted a talk show and a variety show, and played Jango Fett in two Star Wars prequels.

A panel session facilitated by Mr Ha involved two successful and respected agents, Gemma Rowlinson from RE/MAX Stars and Hemant Parikh from RE/MAX Revolution and top raking sales teams, Team Lewis from RE/MAX Revolution and Team Jerry from RE/MAX Partners.

The panelists shared their own experiences before they all did a fine job of responding to audience questions.

As well as leading RE/MAX New Zealand, Mr Ha is recognised as someone who has successfully mastered the art of business and property investing. He is considered an expert in his field, a true professional with an astute mind, and a brilliant sales trainer, mentor, author and speaker.

His lively and passionate presentation of ‘Ten Actions to change your business 100%’ was a valuable take-away for the network’s members.

The day rally, held at Hilton Queenstown Resort & Spa, moved into the evening with the announcement of six-month achievements.

RE/MAX Revolution dominated in January to June 2020 office performance and was Number 1 for both transaction sides and commission. RE/MAX Partners and RE/MAX Team Realty made up the top three.

Tracy Corneal of RE/MAX Apex led the six months for transaction sides and Charlotte Wilson, RE/MAX Realty Group led in commissions. Tania Fasher, RE/MAX Leading Edge, was the top commercial agent.

Team Lewis, RE/MAX Revolution was Number 1 for both transaction sides and commissions, with Team Hilliam and Team Vinson, both from RE/MAX Partners, completing the top three in the residential sales teams.

Don Ha Project Sales, RE/MAX Revolution, was the top-performing project marketing team for transaction sides and commission.

Mr Ha said events such as the rally represented the close-knit RE/MAX network.

“This has been a year that none of us could have imagined but the strength of the RE/MAX network globally has supported RE/MAX New Zealand and we, in turn, have supported our New Zealand members,” he said.

“I am overwhelmed by the resilience of our Kiwi broker owners and sale agents. Nothing stops us with our ‘never give up’ attitude.”

Mr Ha explained that with flights over-booked, some rally-goers had their seats cancelled.

“I saw teams driving from the top of North Island to catch the ferry across the Cook Strait and on to Queenstown, and also hiring cars from Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch to drive to the venue.

“This is unheard of and, as CEO of RE/MAX New Zealand, I applaud those who went to any cost to get there.

“This was an exceptional rally in many ways, not only because of the content and experience imparted by great speakers but through the strength and resilience of our agents, property managers, business owners and support people.”

He said RE/MAX New Zealand’s July had been an exceptional month, exceeding the previous ‘bests’ of December 2019 and December 2018, and the spring market was showing every sign that it would be very strong.
