Michael Davoren steps aside

In a strategic move announced publicly today, RE/MAX Australia Managing Director Michael Davoren will take up the role of Chairman on the RE/MAX Australia Board, while Joel Davoren will assume the position of Managing Director.

Under the changed leadership structure, which comes into effect from 1 July, Chris Chapman will retain the Finance Directorship and Josh Davoren will become Director of Operations, adding to his marketing portfolio.

Current Franchise Director, Joel Davoren, will continue in that position while also assuming the broader role of Managing Director of RE/MAX Australia.

Highly respected in the real estate industry nationally and internationally, Michael Davoren’s strategic leadership, mentoring, governance, and business acumen have been among the qualities he brought to the RE/MAX Australia Board as Managing Director.

He is a passionate advocate for continual evolution of the real estate industry and has been part of high-impact decisions. He takes on the Chairman role from a position of great strength.

“The past 12-month period has been massive for RE/MAX Australia, with a number of key strategies and goals successfully achieved,” Michael Davoren said.

“An opportunity arose in New Zealand that led to the transfer of the RE/MAX regional business there to local ownership. The merger of Western Australia’s RE/MAX offices with RE/MAX Australia unified RE/MAX across the nation.

“My three co-directors led the network to embrace the Precinct platform – a key milestone in our digital transformation – along with several sophisticated digital tools

“Much of this has occurred as RE/MAX Australia navigated the network through Covid-19, with Joel, Chris and Josh really steering this. In doing so, they gained absolute respect, confidence, and admiration of the network, which eased my decision to pass RE/MAX Australia over to their management while I take the role of Chairman.”

Joel Davoren described the incoming leadership as a strong team with new dynamics.

“We’ve worked and achieved together for many years and plan to build on that to expand this great network through organic growth and acquisition,” he noted.

“Recent months gave us the opportunity to demonstrate our leadership and value to the network; and the greatest lesson I’ve learned in that period is that leaders must be very visible. They must be there when it counts the most.

“The platform for the RE/MAX service offering to the network is at its highest ever and our goal is to develop it even further.”

Brad Neilson, one of RE/MAX Australia’s most esteemed broker owners, noted RE/MAX is a dynamic company.

“This top management reshuffle is a well-timed execution as Michael, an industry icon, assumes the role of Chairman to make the RE/MAX Australia Board even stronger and our businesses more successful, he stated.

Multi award winner Katie Knight has been with RE/MAX for more than 20 years and a broker owner since 2013.

“I’m confident the new management team will create unlimited opportunities for this network and will lead innovation in our continually changing industry,” she said.

Justin Miller, whose Gold Coast office is regularly ranked #1, agreed.

“Michael brings so much history and experience to the Chairman role. Joel, Chris and Josh have truly demonstrated their mettle as innovators and leaders, and they have the vision and the skills to make our brand even greater,” he said.

Ms Knight added that RE/MAX members Australia-wide are right behind the leadership team and they are also “incredibly fortunate to have Michael’s wisdom and experience on tap”.

“We’ve been handed an opportunity and a responsibility,” Joel Davoren said. “Our responsibility to our network is enormous but we are confident, and our strategies are clear.

“Chris, Josh and I are proud to continue the legacy that has been forged by previous RE/MAX leaders in Australia. We are proud to be part of a great global real estate network.

“It’s been said many times: our industry is evolving rapidly. We have ambitious plans for our network to be at the forefront,” he said.

Australia is one of more than 110 countries and territories worldwide with a RE/MAX presence.

In December 2012, the global real estate franchisor transferred the regional RE/MAX Australia master franchise to a local ownership group led by its then managing director, Michael Davoren, and included Chris Chapman, who was Managing Director of RE/MAX New Zealand at the time.
