LJ Hooker goes behind the Great Wall

A group of 52 LJ Hooker award winners and network members ventured to the most populous country in the world recently to expand their business network, build relationships and experience some of the most stunning man-made sites in the Northern Hemisphere.

Amidst the bustling Shanghai streets, oriental plates of noodles and history rich site-seeing LJ Hooker’s Head of Events, Leanne Howard, said attendees managed to find the perfect mix of business and pleasure.

“The tour kicked off in the other city that never sleeps; Shanghai. Packed with sky scraper buildings as far as the eye can see and city lights like you’ve never seen before, Shanghai is the dynamic, financial centre of China,” she said.

“On one of our first stops we heard from the director of international banking at ANZ bank, on how to do business in China from an Australian perspective which provided great insights for our agents.

“Then our LJ Hooker Shanghai team spoke about opportunities with them for us in China. We also heard from Juwai – the equivalent of REA and Domain in China – on the impact of Chinese buyers on the international property market and how to do business with them.”

According to Ms Howard the highlight of the six-day study tour was a session on “Creating your network in China” where the attendees had the opportunity to meet 24 leading local Chinese agents and business owners who all do business with Australia.

“Australia is second behind the US as China’s most favourable investment destination. Ninety million Chinese search for property every month and Chinese buyers spent $37 billion on international residential properties last year,” Ms Howard said.

“The LJ Hooker study tour was certainly a trip of a lifetime. We gained so much; new knowledge, great business connections, new friends and fun times in incredible locations.”

Each year LJ Hooker hosts a study tour to reward their top performers in Australia and New Zealand. The study tours are designed to synergise culture, business and celebrate achievement in a once in a lifetime, all expenses paid experience. Last year the study tour visited Dubai.

Paul Vujnovich of LJ Hooker/Harveys won his ticket to the China Study Tour by being named New Zealand Franchise Owner of the Year for the second year running. Mr Vujnovich praised the trip, particularly the networking aspect.

“To meet other realtors within the Harveys and LJ Hooker family was something very special. The bond that was created almost instantly was something that I will treasure forever,” he said.

“The educational aspect of the trip was also invaluable. From what the Chinese buyers were looking for when they were investing overseas, to some of the cultural differences that were so critical in helping us build quality relationships with them.

“Having been on both Study Tours to Dubai and now China, I hope this very important event on the LJ Hooker calendar remains, as the opportunity to exchange business ideas and experiences with each other is priceless.”

Mike Stewart of LJ Hooker Toowoomba was also on the trip after being named the Sir Leslie Hooker award winner, the highest honour in the LJ Hooker network.

“In every sense the LJ Hooker Study Tour 2015 was an unqualified success,” he said.

“The itinerary was the perfect blend of sights sounds and experiences capturing the essence of China old and new. The opportunities for professional engagement with not only Chinese real estate agents but some of the finest minds and greatest achievers in the LJ Hooker World rounded out the program.”

The China trip also included site-seeing at some of the world’s most incredible man-made destinations including Tiananmen Square, The Forbidden City, The Summer Palace and The Great Wall of China.
